Born in Malaysia, Mr Asmady is a full time photographer shooting weddings, events and portraiture for almost 12 years. Before turning pro in 2004, he was a sport journalist with a local English newspaper in Malaysia.
He learnt about photography late. Only after leaving the newspaper he started playing with camera. His first camera―Yashica fx3 manual camera― belongs to his late father. He has never had a formal photography education. Instead he learnt mostly by trial and error and by attending short photography courses by local photographers and also courses by photographers from Philippines and Indonesia.
That worked. He has a winning record in Canon photo marathon Malaysia: first prize in 2011, grand prize in 2014 and third prize in 2015.
Mr Asmady, 46, is now running his own company, Studio Aston, covering weddings and events around Malaysia and abroad. He also teaches at Canon EOS Academy and is a member of a local wedding association called MWPPM (short for Malay Wedding and Portrait Photographers Malaysia). He was also a mentor for a local polytechnic’s photography entrepreneur department in 2015.
Currently he uses Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 5D Classic and Canon 750D. He lives in Malaysia with his wife and three children.
