The Second Edition of Photo Shanghai Ran Between September 11-13

It attracted over 26,000 visitors including major international and Asia-Pacific collectors.


Photo Shanghai, Asia’s premier art fair dedicated to photography returned September to the Shanghai Exhibition Centre. The fair opened to VIPs on 10 September and to the public from 11-13 September. Those in attendance included curators from leading international contemporary art and photography museums and private collectors from over 20 countries including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, USA, France, Germany and the UK. This impressive second edition of Photo Shanghai has cemented its position as Asia’s premier art fair dedicated to photography and as Shanghai’s most international art fair.

Many works sold at the fair including:
• Matthew Liu Gallery, Shanghai, who showed works by Candida Höfer and Vik Muniz, sold both artists on the opening night. The large Höfer Benrather Schloss, Dusseldorf IV, 2011 sold for 58,000 EUR
• ATLAS Gallery, London, sold two works from the edition of 7 of René Burri’s Horse Pool and House by Luis Barragan, 1976, for £16,000 each
• A portrait of Kate Moss by Annie Leibovitz presented by BEETLES + HUXLEY, London, sold for $48,000
• Vanguard Gallery, Shanghai presented the work of Japanese photographers Yuki Onodera and Aki Lumi, with over 15 works being sold, the most the gallery has sold by either artist to date

Photo Shanghai 2016
Photo Shanghai 2016 will return to the Shanghai Exhibition Centre on 9-11 September 2016. The inaugural edition of its sister fair, Photo San Francisco, will open at the Festival Pavilion, Fort Mason Centre from 20-22 January 2017. Both will continue to drive the World Photography Organisation’s commitment to connect buyers and galleries from both East and West.
