Japan will soon see another special edition of the Leica camera. To celebrate the 300th anniversary of Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store, the German camera manufacturer will offer a limited production run of 50 Wajima lacquer Leica M (Typ 240), a digital range finder camera sporting Leica Max 24MP CMOS sensor and Leica Maestro, an image processor. It is a build-to-order production and will cost 1,350,000 yen. Pre-order will start from 13:00 (JST) on March 25th in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.
The longer you use the five-layered lacquer body, the more it will fit you. As craftsmen will repeat manual procedures of painting and drying all parts from the top cover to the base plate, it will take 3-4 months until delivery. But it will surely be worth a wait.
